Frequently Asked Questions
Safety is our top priority. If poor weather conditions prevent a scheduled flight, we’ll reschedule at no cost to you. When possible, we will use the time for valuable ground instruction so your progress continues, even if we can’t fly that day.
Yes, we do! Our Discovery Flights are $200 plus tax and include one hour in the air with a Certified Flight Instructor. It’s a great way to experience flying firsthand and see what flight training is all about—no commitment required.
No, you do not have to pay for your training in full. You are welcome to pay as you go, with payment due after each lesson. This allows you to manage your training costs at your own pace.
We train in the Cessna 150, a reliable and popular training aircraft known for its simplicity and efficiency. Our aircraft are equipped with basic six-pack avionics, making them ideal for student pilots to build strong foundational flying skills.
SkyWings Aviation does not offer pilot financing.
We offer flexible scheduling—flights and lessons can be booked any day and at any time, as long as both the student and instructor are available. We do our best to accommodate your schedule and make training as convenient as possible.
On your first day of flight training, please bring the following items:
- A valid photo ID
- U.S. Passport or U.S. Birth Certificate
- FAA Certifications (if applicable — not required for new students)
- Current FAA Medical Certificate (not required for new students)
- Copy of Renter’s or Owner’s Insurance (not required until your first solo flight)
NOTE: On your first day, a Certified Flight Instructor will assist you in setting up your Student Pilot License and scheduling your FAA Medical exam. Renter’s insurance will only be needed once you are ready for your first solo flight.
Yes, we do offer ground training if needed. As a Part 61 flight school, it’s not required to complete a set amount of ground instruction, but we’re happy to provide one-on-one ground training to help you prepare for the FAA written exam, review complex topics, or support your overall progress. We’re here to support your learning every step of the way.
Flying 3–5 days per week is generally more cost-effective than flying only once a week. When flying just once per week, students often need extra review due to reduced retention of material and common weather-related delays. This additional review time can lead to higher overall training costs.
The FAA mandates a minimum of 40 flight hours to qualify for a pilot certificate. However, this does not account for the necessary ground training that complements flight instruction. In practice, most students require approximately 50 to 60 flight hours to be fully prepared for their checkride, which aligns with current industry averages.
